Gevril Watches

As many of you know, "The Avenue of the Americas" series is considered the pinnacle of current Gevril production. While in production for the last few years, it largely available via high end watch dealers.

What makes these examples especially intriguing is that they were first released as a set to coincide with Gevril's arrival at Tourneau, and with their partnership with a high end racing team, hence the term "Champ" associated with this particular pair. This was heralded with a high profile party at the New York City location, which I was fortunate enough to attend. Sold only as a pair, this set retailed for as much as 16,000.00.

The Swiss handmade dials of this series are wonderful works of art. The numbers not applied but rather sculpted as part of the dial, but moving beyond that, each number is individually beveled and sculpted by hand, as is the dial itself. In addition, the coloration is done by hand, and in great detail, resulting in no two dials being alike. The dial is displayed beneath a very expensive sapphire crystal, both thick and beveled. Sammy Friedmann, CEO of Gevril, estimates the cost of creating and modifying such a crystal at about a 30:1 cost ratio when compared to traditional crystals.

When presented as the "Champ" set, the pair commanded a retail as much as 16,000.00. Two models are included; the 5010 chronograph, and the 5022 GMT power reserve. Gevril recently re-issued individual retails as 4495 for the chronograph, and 5995.00 for the GMT, and while that is the list currently seen on their website you should know that there are in fact two versions of each timepiece; the ones involved in the Champ set, and those that are not. in a recent conversation with me Mr. Friedmann (CEO of Gevril) he placed the retails on the pieces associated with the Champ collector's set to be at least 1000 dollars higher than those not involved.

5010 chronograph- features a Dubois Dépraz 2020 51 jewel automatic mechanical chronograph movement with Swiss lever escapement, modified by Gevril and renamed GV AOAWZ1. Gevril created a custom pusher mechanism to allow interaction with the round movement within the rectangular case.

5022 GMT Power Reserve- Swiss made mechanical with automatic winding. Soprad 9035 (base ETA 2892-2), modified by Gevril and renamed GV AOAX32. 25 jewels - shock resistant Incabloc, anti-magnetic, 28,800 vibrations per hour, power reserve of 45 hours Mechanical automatic movement with Swiss lever escapement: Indication of dual time (small GMT), power reserve, hours, minutes, seconds and date, decorated bridges, Nivarox mainspring, Nivaflex hairspring, Glucydur balance, personalized oscillation weight, heavy metal ball bearing rotor.
