SARO-Gem Watches
SARO-gem produces timepieces that are truly unique masterpieces,
literally custom made, incorporating both the beautiful and practical
applications of the properties of sapphire. This is truly world class
watchmaking, with nothing like it in the current luxury watch market.
Saro-Gem is a 25 year old company that is relatively new to the US
market, and is a member of the European Watch Group (EWG). Saro-Gem
watches are truly in the league of very exclusive handmade Swiss watches.
When Rolf von Burg drew up the design for this watch, he knew it would
be a marvelous timepiece. The case is individually milled from a solid
block of Swiss Inox steel, which exhibits similar advantages as 316L
stainless steel. SARO-Gem installs a "custom rotor" on each pure Swiss
movement used; in the instance of chronographs a handfinished and
decorated Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750. SARO plays to their strength and
expertise of manipulating sapphire in conjunction with very high grade
steel. The sapphire content of a bracelet alone can exceed 60 ct., while
sapphire watch crystals can see 12 ct. per pair.
Part of the wonder of SARO is that each piece is handmade to order. SARO
watches do not sit in a vault awaiting a home; each is built only after
an order is placed. Any SARO-gem creation is invariably pure Swiss
handmade using only Swiss parts and suppliers. The timepiece designs
vary constantly, depending on dial, case, bezel design and material,
bracelet or strap, and diamond selection. In some instances as few as
twenty examples may be produced. In the instance of a sapphire bracelet
each link is individually created and sequentially numbered.
Chronograph models are based on a pure Swiss ETA Valjoux 7750, 25 Jewel
Flyback automatic chronograph, high frequency 4 Hz, Incabloc, decorated
with furnace blued screws, and date complication at 4 o’clock.
The case is 43mm 4 part design crafted in Inox stainless steel, with
convex sapphire top crystal and flat sapphire crystal on case-back.
The bezel is crafted from Inox 316L Clous de Paris bezel, with 16
genuine vsi diamonds available in the lug area as an option.
The dial is crafted in either red/black or blue/black "Sun Burst" with
custom gold dust decoration and 8 genuine vsi diamonds.
The hour and minute hands are finished in 18k yellow gold and tipped
with luminox. The second hand is finished in black lacquer with with
luminox tip. All chronograph hands are also luminox treated.

*Watch Construction Details:*
*Watch hands:*
Base metal of hands is brass, finished in 18k gold for yellow look, and
rhodium finished for white look, center filled with luminox.
*Case:*
All parts of the case such as Décor bezel, lower bezel/sealing rings,
backs/crystal rings are made of solid stainless steel INOX. Unlike other
cases which are pressed or cut, SARO cases are individually milled. To
mill the case curve is a lengthy and demanding process of the highest
accuracy. The lug area cannot be milled out of the same piece and are
processed separately. The cases are hand finished after raw milling.
*Attaching custom lugs to the case:*
This is done using superb precision, and positioned by specifically
designed tools, with exact measured quantity of solder (very important)
in order not to have any overflows. The assembly is then passed through
a high temperature oven to bake to the case, which ensures an integral
fit and make them appear as if they where one and the same case piece.
*Dial:*
Base material is brass, a plate of 0.40 mm which is colored/lacquered.
Gold dust is introduced by hand into the still wet color thus making
each dial different. A transparent lacquer finish is applied to protect
the dial, over which the printing of the logo etc. is added. In the
final step the diamonds are hand set in jewelry baguette settings (not
glued or pressed as this would take away from the light reflection and
make the diamonds appear dull).
*Sapphire Bracelet Overlay:*
A clear, processed sapphire plate is put into a vacuum oven after the
plate has been masked with the decor required. The plate is then
deposited under vacuum with the base alloy, afterwards etched and then
re-processed to add the other colors onto the glass. The embedded
crescents are crafted in 18k white gold.

**Bracelet:*
A stainless steel base bracelet link is set with the finished, pvd'd
sapphire plate. Special formulated epoxy is used to attach the sapphire
to the steel bracelet. It will withstand 800 lbs of pull force and the
adhesive won't crack after years of use as it is engineered to expand
and contract to adhere properly. The hinge assembly is a 2 piece design
with the pin holding a center tube which guides and holds the pin in
place, facilitating a better movement of the links without risking the
pin falling out as the guide pin has a double notch feature. This method
also creates a much more sleek look along the side of the bracelet which
is high polished; just another design detail which differentiates SARO
designs from mass produced products.
